CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS
A political and military stand off went on for 13 days in October 1962 when the Soviet Union tried to place their nuclear weapons in Cuba (90 miles away from the U.S. shore), President John F. Kennedy prepared his military to balance out this misconstrued threat if need to be. However it wasn't needed because when the U.S. agreed to Nikita Khrushchev's offer to not invade Cuba in exchange for the removal of their nuclear weapons. Also Kennedy secretly agreed to remove U.S. missiles from Turkey.
